Newcastle Art Gallery - Onwards Gallery.

Entering our fourth year of exhibiting both emerging and established artists at Onwards Gallery, we’re thrilled to announce our 2022 Exhibition program.

We’ve made a lot of upgrades and changes to our space to deliver a remarkable Newcastle art gallery experience for the future. 2022 will share an incredibly diverse line up of contemporary painters, sculptors, ceramicists, photographers, printers, collage artists and more.

To kick things off, we’re very excited about our first four exhibitions in our newly renovated gallery.

Onwards Gallery February–March exhibitions

2022 opens with Sintered. An intriguing group exhibition with works by Chris Clifton, Michelle Hallinan, Katrina Holden, & Elizabeth O’Brien. The artists will be exhibiting the beginnings of a new body of work that juxtaposes personal observations and representations of the unique geological formation Burning Mountain, in Wonnarua Country. A truly intriguing group exhibition with an intimate panel discussion to follow.

March shares an exhibition that is the perfect follow up. Dust for Days by the incredibly talented Annika Lee will share amazing sculptural works formed by timber, steel and stone. Annika has been an artist we’ve kept a close eye on for a few years now. We can’t explain how excited we are for this. A truly special, talented and dedicated young artist who’s work needs to be seen.

Onwards Gallery April exhibitions

April sees an amazing local artist share work in Onwards Gallery after their exhibition had been postponed due to lock-down restrictions in 2021.

Patrick Mavety is a Newcastle based painter whose work is a direct and visceral response to the places and people around him. Mavety takes inspiration from the every day while also drawing from memories and dreams. Working from Onwards Studio, we have seen works in progress that share a colourful depiction of the world as he passes through it. Another long awaited exhibition by a prominent and prolific Newcastle painter.
