Contemporary Collage workshop with Holly Leonardson
In this workshop, Newcastle-based artist Holly Leonardson will introduce you to the world of contemporary collage and provide an overview on the creative process and materials. Key examples of other collage artist's work will be provided by Holly to illustrate various techniques, styles and approaches. Participants will be guided through the creative process to create up to two ready-to-frame artworks of your own.
In this workshop you will spend some time cutting out the images, colours, patterns and textures you are drawn to from a curated selection of vintage books and magazines, experimenting with different cutting, layering and gluing techniques demonstrated by Holly to open up the possibilities of our image making. Before gluing final work, participants have the time to consider different arrangements and combinations to create beautiful, surreal, humorous, minimal or abstract compositions.
At the end of the session, you will take home up to two finished collages on quality cotton watercolour paper, and any additional collages you have made straight onto whole pages from vintage books.
No prior experience necessary. All materials provided - includes scissors, blades, cutting mat, glue, quality paper, vintage books and magazines.
