Contemporary Collage Workshop

With Holly Leonardson

In this 3 hour workshop, Newcastle-based artist Holly Leonardson will introduce you to the world of contemporary collage, providing a comprehensive overview on the creative process, materials, tools and techniques before you dive in to create your own ready-to-frame artworks of your own, with digitised versions for you to share online.

Holly’s original collages (framed and unframed), plus key examples of other leading collage artist's work will be displayed to illustrate various techniques, styles and approaches. Participants will be gently guided through the creative process as Holly shares tips, suggestions and thoughts on the collage process that she has acquired over the past 10 years.

Choose from a curated selection of vintage books and magazines and spend some time cutting out the images, colours, patterns and textures you are drawn to and experiment with the different cutting, layering and gluing techniques demonstrated by Holly to open up the possibilities of image making. Consider different arrangements and combinations to create beautiful, surreal, humorous, minimal or abstract compositions.

At the end of the session, you will take home one finished collage on A3 quality cotton watercolour paper, and any additional collages you have made straight onto whole pages from vintage books. Holly will scan and digitise your finished collages towards the end of the session and will share these via email within 7 days.

No prior experience necessary. All materials provided - includes scissors, blades, cutting mat, glue, quality paper, vintage books and magazines.

This workshop allows for up to 15 participants. Suitable for ages 16+.
