Melisah May is a Newcastle based Artist primarily working in oils on canvas.
Escapism is an overarching theme in her work, looking often from a different perspective to unearth unseen views and patterns in landscapes, bodies of water and her immediate environment.
May uses her time in the studio as a form of escape in itself, relaxing into every stroke of paint and minute that slips by, much like watching the ocean.
Using colour and space to draw the viewer in, her recent seascapes provide an otherworldly sense of salty nostalgia. Deep blues, glowing golden sand and calming neutral greys form much of her palette.
Fresh emerald green moss, and burnt orange rust form a delicate contrast in the details, and the variation in the blues of the ocean nudge every inch of the shade’s spectrum.
